Lake Region Middle School students deserve an education that will develop
    their abilities to the maximum.

The Lake Region School District recognizes that middle school students have complex needs, interests and abilities. These students require programs and activities, which will provide the skills and attitudes necessary to move from the elementary school to the high school. This transition must be accomplished while considering the unique characteristics of the early adolescent. Students' educational programs and activities will be based on their past experiences, knowledge, and diverse learning styles.  These programs and activities will be designed to develop thinking processes needed to become self-reliant, productive individuals.

Wow - the day after tomorrow we have our new students coming through the door for their first day. I look forward to the day with the hope that all our new students are as excited as I am about the start of school.

Today was the staffs first day back with a district wide meeting in the morning and building activities the rest of the day. We, at LRMS, spent time getting reacquainted, meeting new members with a focus on classroom management, a look back at the first few of our 25 years and a look forward to recommitting to middle school philosophy. The Maine Department of Education’s timing is perfect, as they have just released a new report, Bright Futures, on what it means to be a middle school. Our intent, as part of our recommitment to the middle school philosophy to dissect this report and compare its recommendations to our current practices.

Tomorrow our focus will continue to be the classroom with a look at our MEA data. Specifically to look at instructional practices based on data and use it to improve student success.

This year we will be an entire computer 1-to-1 school. With the high school in Maine adopting the 1-to-1 computers we were able to buy enough of our previous computers to supply all of our 6th graders. Meetings will take place for all our students to take their laptops home. A change this year is that all students and parents need to come in for up-dated training. Sixth grade will have separate meetings from the seventh and eighth graders.

The new math curriculum will finally be up and running this year. We piloted a number last year and settled on Connected Math. This curriculum matches up very well with Every Day Math.

Come by for a visit and keep in mind that this is our 25th year so watch for our celebration activities.
